The Brussels Balloon Job, 10 July 2013

The EU’s ENVI committee will b voting in a couple of hours to decide how they think electronic cigarettes should be regulated. This decision could start the EU down the road to making e-cigs more available than they are now, or it could lead to a terrible mistake that will kill millions of people.

Funnily enough not everyone trusts MEPs to make the right decision on their own, so groups of vapers from all over the EU will be making their presence felt outside the European Parliament while the final debate and vote take place. As part of the demonstration they will be popping 2,000 black balloons, to symbolise the daily death toll that could be avoided by promoting the use of e-cigs as a safer alternative to smoking.

Further news about the demonstration will be available here later, so check back for updates!

I’m a freelance writer and former soldier, originally from Glasgow but now living in Germany. E-cigarettes let me quit smoking after more than 20 years. I’m not going to sit back and let self-important jobsworths regulate them out of existence just because they’re too difficult to understand.
